Shubman Gill is one of Indian cricket's brightest young stars — and as Gujarat Titans captain, he carries the responsibility of reviving a franchise that won the IPL title in its debut season (2022). After missing GT's first two matches of IPL 2026, Gill returned for Match 14 against DC — just in time for GT's first win of the season.
🌟 Achievement: Gill holds the record for the highest individual score by a GT captain — 129 vs MI in 2023. He was also the youngest Indian to score a Test century in Australia (2021, aged 21).
BIOGRAPHY
Full Name: Shubman Gill · Born: September 8, 1999, Fazilka, Punjab · Age: 26 · Role: Right-hand top-order batter · IPL Teams: KKR (2018–2021), GT (2022–present) · GT Captain Since: 2024 · IPL Title: 2022 (as GT player)
Gill starred in India's U-19 World Cup triumph in 2018, became a key batter at KKR, and then moved to GT in the 2022 mega auction. He was part of the squad that won the title in GT's first-ever season under Hardik Pandya's captaincy. When Pandya moved to MI, Gill was handed the captain's armband — and has since become one of India's most important batters across all formats.
His elegant stroke-play — particularly his cover drives, flicks through mid-wicket, and ability to play pace bowlers off the back foot — has drawn comparisons to Virat Kohli. Gill is India's vice-captain in Tests and ODIs, and many believe he will eventually captain India across all formats.

IPL 2026 — INJURY & RETURN
Gill missed GT's first two matches (vs PBKS and vs RR) due to a niggle, with Rashid Khan standing in as captain. GT lost both — to PBKS and then a heartbreaking 6-run loss to RR. Gill returned for Match 14 against Delhi Capitals, and GT immediately looked a different side. With Jos Buttler smashing 52 off 27 balls and Rashid Khan taking 3/17, GT won by 1 run in a thrilling finish to register their first points of the season.
GT now sit 6th with 2 points — behind the pace but not out of the race. With Gill back anchoring the batting and Rashid firing with the ball, GT's season may be about to turn. The franchise needs Gill to replicate his 2023 form (890 runs at SR 158) if they're to challenge for the playoffs.
